The single billing axis

AskVault bills on one dimension: indexed content in MB.

Why this matters:

  • Predictable. You know exactly when you'll hit the cap.
  • Aligned with value. More content = more bot intelligence; pay for what you use.
  • No surprise charges. No per-message overage and no per-seat surprise.

Other limits (monthly messages, channels, team) scale by plan tier but aren't a separate billing axis. The MB cap is what binds first.

Message credits

Each plan includes a monthly allowance of message credits. One answer on a standard model uses one credit. Premium models cost more credits per answer (the model picker shows the cost up front), so a workspace that leans on higher-end models uses its allowance faster.

You get a friendly heads-up at 70%, 90%, and 100% of your monthly messages. At the cap you can upgrade or top up; we don't silently cut you off, and there's no per-message overage billing.

What "indexed content" means

The MB count covers:

  • Crawled URLs. Each page's text contributes to the count.
  • Uploaded files. PDF, DOCX, TXT, MD, CSV.
  • Snippets and Q&A pairs you've created.
  • Integration-sourced content (Notion, GitHub, Confluence, etc.).

Not counted toward the MB cap:

  • Conversations. Customer chats are stored separately.
  • Audit logs. Compliance data.
  • Backups. Internal use only.

Track current MB usage under Knowledge Hub > Storage Usage.

Why content-based billing

Three reasons we picked this:

  1. Content is the moat. What makes your bot useful is the indexed knowledge.
  2. Easy to optimize. Delete what's not used; index what is.
  3. No surprise. Per-message billing punishes high-engagement bots; per-seat billing punishes growing teams.

Quotas per plan

Beyond the MB cap, each plan has additional caps:

Free (14-day trial). 50 messages/month. Widget plus shared chat page. 1 team member. 1 workspace.

Starter. 2,000 messages/month. Adds REST API, Zapier, and Make. 1 team member. 2 workspaces.

Growth. 6,000 messages/month. Adds WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, SMS, and email (11 channels in total; everything except Voice and Intercom). 4 team members. 5 workspaces.

Business. 15,000 messages/month. All 13 channels (adds Voice and Intercom). 10 team members. 15 workspaces.

Enterprise. Custom message volume (40,000/month floor). All 13 channels. Unlimited team and workspaces.

A message is one bot response. A conversation with 10 turns counts as 10 messages.

Channels per plan

Channel access is gated by plan tier. The table below shows which of the 13 channels each plan unlocks.

Voice and Intercom are Business-only because of their cost structure (Twilio Voice plus ASR/TTS for Voice; the Intercom seat model for Intercom).

Skills per plan

The 14 built-in skills:

  • Free. knowledge_search, collect_lead.
  • Starter. Adds ticketing_router, sentiment_router.
  • Growth. Adds escalate_to_human, sdr_lead_qualifier, demo_scheduler, content_recommender, wismo_order_status, wc_order_status, cart_recovery.
  • Business. Adds discount_negotiator, subscription_manager, custom_webhook.
  • Enterprise. All plus custom skills.

See skills overview for what each does.

Team seats

Per plan:

  • Free, Starter. 1 seat (just you).
  • Growth. 4 seats.
  • Business. 10 seats.
  • Enterprise. Unlimited.

Note: AskVault doesn't charge per-seat. Adding teammates doesn't add cost; it just consumes your plan's seat cap.

Workspaces

Multiple workspaces let you separate environments or brands:

  • Free. 1 workspace.
  • Starter. 2 workspaces.
  • Growth. 5 workspaces.
  • Business. 15 workspaces.
  • Enterprise. Unlimited.

Each workspace has its own knowledge, channels, and analytics. Useful for:

  • Multi-brand operators.
  • Production vs staging.
  • Per-team workspaces in larger orgs.

Annual prepay discount

Pay 12 months upfront and save roughly 15 to 20% versus paying monthly. Annual locks your rate; mid-cycle plan changes prorate. Ask billing for the current annual figures for your tier.

What's not included

Some features are add-ons, Enterprise-only, or not yet available:

  • SSO/SAML. Not yet available — on the roadmap, no committed date. Contact sales if this is a blocker for your evaluation.
  • Dedicated infrastructure. Enterprise only.
  • Signed DPA. Enterprise only, via sales.
  • BYOK (Bring Your Own Key). Enterprise only.

Comparison vs competitors

AskVault's content cap runs well ahead of comparable plans at Chatbase and SiteGPT. Here's a typical Growth-tier comparison. Neither competitor bills by content size — Chatbase meters message credits and SiteGPT meters page count — so the MB figures below are AskVault's own conversion for comparison, not the vendor's native unit:

PlatformEquivalent planPrice (pay-monthly)Content cap
AskVaultGrowth$99/mo40 MB
ChatbasePro$500/mo~40 MB (AskVault estimate)
SiteGPTGrowth$129/mo~25 MB (AskVault estimate)
Custom GPT (DIY)Self-hosted$90,000 /year build + maintainCustom

Generous content cap is the AskVault differentiator. See:

Sample customer journey

How a typical SaaS team grows through plans:

Week 1: Free trial.

  • Validating the bot's quality during the 14-day trial.
  • 5 MB of content. Widget plus shared page.
  • About 50 messages per month.

Month 3: Upgrade to Starter.

  • Hit the 5 MB cap.
  • Bumping to 15 MB.
  • Adding REST API for product integration.

Month 6: Upgrade to Growth.

  • Hit 15 MB cap.
  • Adding WhatsApp and Slack channels.
  • Team grew to 4 support agents.

Month 12: Upgrade to Business.

  • Hit 40 MB cap.
  • Adding voice channel.
  • Team grew to 8.
  • Need 15,000 messages per month.

Month 24+: Move to Enterprise.

  • Hit 100 MB cap.
  • Need dedicated infrastructure.
  • Need signed DPA.

Most teams stop at Growth or Business. Enterprise is for over-100-MB content libraries or specific compliance needs.

FAQ

Why MB instead of messages for billing?

Predictability. MB is stable. Message volume varies unpredictably with traffic. We bill on the dimension that aligns with value (content = bot intelligence) and doesn't punish customer growth. Monthly messages are an included allowance, not a separate billing axis.

Can I switch plans anytime?

Yes for upgrades (immediate, prorated). Downgrades take effect at the end of the current cycle.

Do you offer non-profit or education discounts?

Yes, 30% off via support contact. Verified status required.

What happens when I hit my message limit?

You get an in-app banner (and an alert at 70% and 90% along the way). Upgrade or top up to keep going, or wait for the monthly reset. There's no per-message overage billing.

Is there a free tier with no time limit?

No. The Free plan ($0) is a 14-day trial: 50 messages per month, 5 MB, widget plus shared chat page, no credit card required. Upgrade to a paid plan to keep your agent and data after the trial ends.
