Setup Copilot
What it is
Setup Copilot is the admin-side agent. It is not the chatbot that answers your customers; it is a separate agent whose job is to set up and tune your workspace. Where the classic onboarding wizard walks you through steps to do yourself, Setup Copilot does the steps for you and asks you to approve each one.
You reach it from the Copilot panel in the dashboard. Open it and you can either type a request or tap one of the suggested starts. It works the same way whether your account has 1 workspace or several.
One tap to finish the basics
The panel leads with 4 one-tap actions on a fresh workspace. You do not have to know what to type:
- Finish setting up my agent - runs the whole deployable-basics sequence, one step at a time.
- Set up the website widget - creates the embeddable widget token.
- Create a shareable chat link - publishes your public
/c/chat page, no website required. - Match the widget to my brand - sets the agent name and colors.
The Finish setting up my agent path is the fast track. It usually takes 2 confirm clicks and under 30 seconds to get a live widget and shared link. The Copilot works through the deployable basics in order, skipping anything already done: enable the website widget, publish the shared chat link, then offer to match your branding. The widget and shared link need zero input from you, so it just proposes them. When it finishes, it tells you both are live and gives you the link.
You approve every change
The Copilot can never apply a change on its own. Every action that modifies your workspace pauses and renders a Yes/Cancel confirm card first. The card shows exactly what will change, often as a field-level diff. The change happens only when you click Yes.
This is the same preview-and-confirm gate the visitor pipeline uses for action-taking skills, and the model is structurally prevented from confirming its own mutation. So the Copilot is safe to let loose on a workspace: the worst it can do without your approval is propose something you then decline. There is also an undo last change action if you approve something and change your mind.
What it can do
The Copilot can run 5 categories of admin skills on request. Each one is behind the same confirm card:
- Knowledge. Pull in and index your website content, add a specific knowledge source, or generate FAQ Pairs from what it already knows.
- Branding and voice. Apply a Brand Kit (colors, agent name), apply an industry preset, set the system prompt, or update the Suggested Questions.
- Channels. Create the Widget Token, publish or update the Shared Chat Page. WhatsApp and voice channels need external accounts, so those go through their own setup guide instead.
- Skills. Turn an agentic skill on or off from the Skills Overview. AskVault ships more than 10 skills across knowledge, lead capture, and escalation.
- Team. Invite a teammate from Team Management. Seats are capped per plan, from 1 seat on Free up to 10 on Business.
If you ask for something it does not have a tool for, such as provisioning a phone number or changing billing, it tells you and points you at the right dashboard section instead of pretending it can do it.
Proactive nudges
The Copilot surfaces contextual one-tap prompts on 4 dashboard pages. You do not have to remember what is left to do:
- Knowledge Hub, when the workspace has no indexed content yet.
- Deploy Hub, when the widget or shared link is not connected.
- Widget Studio, when the branding still looks default.
- Analytics, when there are unanswered questions worth turning into knowledge.
Each nudge is a single tap that hands the task to the Copilot, which then walks you through the confirm cards as usual.
How to use it
Follow this order on a new workspace to get a live agent fast.
- Start with Finish setting up my agent. On a new workspace this gets you a live widget and a shareable link in a couple of confirmations.
- Then point it at your site. Ask it to pull in your website content so the agent has something to answer from.
- Read the confirm cards. They are the point. Skim the diff, then approve. It takes a second and it is your guarantee that nothing changes without you.
- Use plain language. "Give the agent a friendlier name and make it green," "import my docs site," "turn on lead capture." It maps the request to the right skill.
FAQ
Is the Copilot the same as my customer-facing chatbot?
No. The chatbot answers your visitors from your knowledge base. Setup Copilot is an admin agent that configures the workspace. They are separate, with separate tools; your visitors never see the admin tools.
Can it change something without asking me?
No. Every change is gated behind a Yes/Cancel confirm card, and the model cannot confirm its own action. Nothing is applied until you click.
What if I approve something by mistake?
Use the undo last change action, or open the Copilot and ask it to revert.
Does it replace the onboarding wizard?
It is the faster path to the same outcome. The step-by-step onboarding wizard is still there if you prefer to do each step yourself.
Can it set up WhatsApp or voice for me?
It handles the in-app basics (widget, shared link, branding, knowledge, FAQ pairs). Channel provisioning that needs external accounts, like WhatsApp or voice numbers, it points you to the right setup guide rather than doing it blind.
