Delete your account

Last updated: · 3 min read

Before deleting

Three things to handle first:

  1. Export your data. Account Settings > Export All. JSON or CSV.
  2. Pause any active integrations pointing at AskVault from your side.
  3. Pay any pending invoices. Outstanding balances must clear.

How to delete

5 minutes:

  1. Open Account Settings > Danger Zone > Delete Account.
  2. Pick reason (helps us improve).
  3. Type "DELETE MY ACCOUNT" verbatim.
  4. Click Confirm.

Within 30 seconds:

  • Login disabled.
  • All workspaces and their data permanently deleted — documents, conversations, embeddings, and vector data.
  • Subscription cancels.
  • Final invoice issued (prorated).

This is permanent — there is no recovery window

Deletion is immediate, not staged:

  • No soft-delete period. Your account and workspace data are deleted in the same request you confirm.
  • Not recoverable. There is no restore process, no support-assisted undo, once you've confirmed.
  • Encrypted backups purge on a rolling 30-day cycle. These exist only for disaster-recovery, not for reactivating your account — after 30 days no copy of your data remains anywhere, including backups.

What's preserved (briefly)

Some data persists longer for legal compliance:

  • Billing records. 7 years for tax law.
  • Audit logs. Retention per plan.
  • Compliance evidence. As required.

GDPR Right to Erasure overrides most retention; request explicitly and we coordinate.

Linked accounts

What happens to:

  • Google OAuth link. Removed; your Google account unaffected.
  • External integrations. OAuth tokens we hold are revoked. Upstream services (Stripe, HubSpot, etc.) keep their own records.
  • Widget tokens. Invalid; any embedded widgets break within 60 seconds.

Data export before delete

Recommended:

  1. Account Settings > Export Data.
  2. Format: JSON or CSV.
  3. Wait (large accounts take 15 to 60 minutes).
  4. Download via secure link (7-day validity).

Saves to your local machine. Don't skip this step.

Pending invoices

If you have outstanding charges:

Multi-account

If you have multiple AskVault accounts (rare):

  • Delete each separately.
  • Each has its own data and billing.

If you change your mind

There's no recovery once you've confirmed deletion — the safe point to back out is before you type the confirmation phrase. If you haven't confirmed yet, just close the dialog; nothing is deleted until you type "DELETE MY ACCOUNT" and click Confirm. Afterward, the only option is signing up fresh with a new account.

Limits

  • Recovery window. None — deletion is immediate and permanent.
  • Backup retention. Up to 30 days from deletion, disaster-recovery only (not user-restorable).
  • Confirmation phrase length. Exact "DELETE MY ACCOUNT".

Common pitfalls

Forgot to export. No data recovery after deletion — it's immediate and permanent. Always export first.

Pending invoice blocks delete. Pay or contact billing.

Customer data unhandled. End-customer GDPR requests must complete before workspace delete.

FAQ

Will deleting cancel my subscription?

Yes immediately.

Can I just disable login temporarily?

Not via Danger Zone; use 2FA + complex password to discourage access. Full deletion is the path.

Will deletion delete my Google account?

No. Only AskVault. Google account unaffected.

Can I recover my account after deleting it?

No. Deletion is immediate and permanent — there's no soft-delete period and no restore process. Export your data before you confirm.
